Fire breaks out during victory rally of independent candidate in Maharashtra

At least 34 people, including the newly elected independent MLA of Chandgad constituency, Shivaji Patil, were injured as a fire broke out while they were taking part in a victory procession in Mahagaon after the Maharashtra Assembly election results were announced.
Shivaji Patil won the Assembly elections from Maharashtra’s Chandgad by a margin of 24,134 votes on Saturday.
In a video of the incident, a bulldozer can be seen showering gulaal on the newly elected MLA and his supporters during a victory rally.

However, as the gulaal settles on the ground, it triggers a massive fire. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
Notably, the Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP swept the state Assembly polls by winning over 230 seats. Out of these, the BJP won 130 seats, its highest ever in the state.
Meanwhile, the Mahavikas Aghadi, comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and NCP (Sharad Pawar), settled with 16, 20 and 10 seats, respectively. The alliance only won 49 seats.
